Are Ridge Wallets worth the hype? My buying advice after weeks of testing one

The Ridge Wallet is available in multiple form factors, starting at $70 and going up to $125 for MagSafe compatible models.

They’re highly durable, well made, and have lots of customization options.

They’re rather expensive, but also durable enough to last for years.

I first became aware of Ridge wallets several years ago, largely because the company seemed to sponsor nearly every YouTube video—including the one where a creator intentionally crashed his plane for views. I have used similar minimalist wallets for years, including a modified Trayvax Original 2.0 G10 since 2019, and I find them superior to traditional leather folding wallets.

My current wallet was beginning to show its age, so I started looking for a replacement. Ridge consistently appeared in my searches, but there was one drawback: the lack of a lanyard hole or any official method to attach one.

However, I eventually received an email from Ridge announcing that my wish had been granted: the company now offers a D-ring attachment. While you have to tinker with tiny screws to install it—much like the AirTag holder—this is nothing new for me, as I have spent my life working with small hardware.

I decided to give the brand another chance and purchased a kit: the MagSafe version in Basecamp Orange, along with an AirTag money clip, a coin tray, and the D-ring attachment.

A few days later, the package arrived. It was quite large and heavy for what would ultimately be a minimalist wallet. Everything was neatly packed in individual boxes, complete with instructions, tools, and extra screws in case I misplaced one or five.

Assembly is straightforward, provided you don’t lose too many screws—I ended up losing zero—and I recommend taking your time to avoid scratching the wallet or damaging the fasteners.

The wallet is built much better than I anticipated. Every component is beautifully machined and fits together perfectly. I appreciate the attention to detail; for instance, each tiny screw comes with a dab of thread locker to prevent loosening, and the coin tray is lined with silicone to keep the contents from rattling.

The D-ring attachment is excellent, allowing me to secure my wallet to a bag, belt, or pants loop, while also serving as a convenient spot for keys.

The finish is flawless, and after several weeks of being tossed around in my backpack and pockets, it still looks fantastic.

This is clearly a product designed and manufactured to last.

I am beginning to appreciate the MagSafe feature, which allows me to combine my phone and wallet into one unit. While losing both at once would be a disaster, I have never left my phone behind, so attaching my wallet makes it even less likely that I will misplace it.

And if I do, both items can be tracked using my Apple Watch.

Ridge wallets are not inexpensive, starting at around $70, with features like MagSafe pushing the price toward $100, carbon fiber models reaching the $120 range, and accessories adding to the total cost.

You can further personalize your wallet with different colored fasteners, or go all out with a 24K gold-plated version, though that is not for me.

For those seeking a wallet that is both modern and capable of lasting for years, this is a worthwhile investment. It is both stylish and practical.
