Microsoft AI Will Help You Shop on Bing and Edge, With Buying Guides, Reviews, Price Match
Microsoft is integrating additional artificial intelligence features into its product lineup. This week, the company announced it is incorporating new AI-driven shopping tools into both the Bing search engine and the Edge web browser.
This development follows Microsoft’s February unveiling of a Bing search experience powered by the large language model technology behind ChatGPT, which the company dubbed an “AI-powered co-pilot for the web.” Search results began featuring insights from OpenAI, and Bing introduced a chat interface to assist with tasks such as creating shopping lists, summarizing PDF documents, drafting LinkedIn posts, and providing guidance on user queries.
In early May, Microsoft opened the Bing AI chatbot to users with a Microsoft account, and by the end of that month, the company expanded access to the general public.
Here is an overview of the three primary areas where AI is being implemented for online shopping—timely additions ahead of major sales events like Amazon Prime Day, Walmart Plus Week, Target Circle Week, and Best Buy’s Black Friday in July.
Bing will utilize AI to generate customized buying guides based on your shopping-related search queries. These guides take a search term, such as “college supplies,” and provide relevant categories, product recommendations, and comparison tables. These buying guides can be accessed
Bing’s guides are currently available in the U.S. and will soon reach other markets. The Edge buying guides are beginning a worldwide rollout.
Some online shoppers enjoy conducting deep research, carefully reading numerous reviews and filtering out brands that do not meet their standards. However, if you require a quick answer or simply prefer to avoid exhaustive online analysis, Microsoft now offers a way to bypass the legwork.
The AI-enhanced Bing Chat will suggest key factors to consider for a purchase, and users can then ask the program to provide a concise summary of what other customers are saying. Review summaries are beginning to roll out globally this week.
Once you have selected a product, Microsoft’s shopping tools focus on pricing. The company has established partnerships with various U.S. retailers that maintain existing price-match policies. Even after a purchase is completed, the feature will track the item’s price and assist you in requesting a match if the cost decreases.
Price comparison and history tools are integrated into the Edge browser, and online coupons along with cash-back offers can be applied automatically. The Edge sidebar will also store your shipping confirmation and tracking details so you do not have to search for them in your inbox. These features are already available in select markets.
