I am an absolute freak for Dr Pepper. In my view, the classic blend—often touted as 23 flavors—is flawless. It’s crisp, sweet, fizzy, and undeniably iconic. I have zero notes.
For that reason, I approach new Dr Pepper varieties with skepticism. What could possibly enhance a classic such as Dr Pepper? And while I think nothing makes Dr Pepper better, some Dr Pepper flavors do taste good if you think of them as their own thing. We recently sampled every Dr Pepper flavor available, among them the Strawberries & Cream edition that arrived in stores in early February. Is it a sweet triumph or an unnecessary expansion of the Dr Pepper lineup? Let’s discuss.
Dr Pepper Strawberries & CreamKroger
Strawberries & Cream Dr Pepper—also offered in a Zero Sugar version—is the latest addition to the Dr Pepper family. The idea is intriguing, yet its execution falls short. This soda doesn’t taste anything like normal Dr Pepper, so I don’t really see the point. It tastes like a very strong artificial strawberry soda.
Strawberry enthusiasts may want to give it a try. It’s not unpleasant, particularly if you enjoy a synthetic, candy‑like flavor or simply find the packaging appealing. But if you’re looking for something that tastes like Dr Pepper, leave this one on the shelf. Dr Pepper is still the superior flavor of Dr Pepper, end of story.
