Coca‑Cola Cherry Float is the latest less‑than‑limited‑edition flavor from the world’s biggest beverage brand. Coca‑Cola sent me sample cans of all three Coca‑Cola variants launching this year as part of its “Year of Cherry.” Keep an eye on Sporked for my reviews of Diet Coke Cherry and the zero‑sugar version of today’s subject; for now, let’s see if Cherry Float Coke will truly make us float.
What makes this “less‑than‑limited-edition”?
Coke Cherry Float marks the second consecutive “year‑long LTO” from Coca‑Cola. The previous year’s Coca‑Cola Orange Cream stayed on shelves for a full year before being pulled last month to clear space for this new offering. New Cherry Float Coke!
Pros: Cherry Coke ranks among the best colas ever created, so any spin on it is likely to impress. Coca‑Cola Cherry Float delivers a sweeter, creamier twist on the classic Cherry Coke formula. Like last year’s Orange Cream, the cream factor is striking; I’m still unsure how they achieve that texture in a cola, but it works just as well the second time around. If you’ve ever enjoyed a Coca‑Cola float, this will appeal to you.
Cons: My main gripe is that Coca‑Cola Cherry Float, while a solid soda, feels too close to regular Cherry Coke. Unlike last year’s Orange Cream, the base fruit‑flavor combination has been on the market for four decades. The added creaminess is a plus, but I lose points for the lack of originality. The same lab that produced “Raspberry S’mores!?” shouldn’t settle for “existing fruit flavor plus melted whipped cream.”
And although it’s still early, I suspect the term “float” may eventually become linked with THC‑infused beverages. Future soda journalists might look back at this name with amusement when they review a very different “Coca‑Cola Float.”
