We Tried Taco Bell’s New Double Dipping Burritos & Split Dip Cup

Taco Bell is constantly innovating by resizing or slightly altering the shape of its classic menu items. Earlier this year, the fast-food chain introduced Crunchwrap Sliders, a miniature, dippable two-pack of the familiar Crunchwrap. This time, Taco Bell has brought back its Cheesy Dipping Burritos, though they are now missing the outer layer of cheese.
Don’t be too disappointed, however; every order of Double Dipping Burritos comes with the debut of Taco Bell’s new Split Dip Cup. This two-compartment container features the brand’s Spicy Ranch on one side and a “crunchy, seasoned blend of crushed tortilla chips and cheddar cheese crispies” on the other. Essentially, you dip a burrito in the sauce and then use that sauce to pick up an extra layer of crunch with every bite. It is surprising that this isn’t bigger news. Taco Bell provided a gift card for us to sample the new Double Dipping Burritos ourselves; let’s see if they are worth a return trip.
Pros: I am always a fan of Taco Bell’s miniature dipping burritos, regardless of the context. The burritos included in this meal aren’t technically new, but they remain a fantastic snack-sized option—or an entree, if you prefer a lighter lunch—whenever they appear on the menu.
The true highlight is clearly the new Split Dip Cup. The concept functions perfectly (provided your cup remains sealed in the bag—I have had mixed results with that so far), offering a great textural upgrade to the dipping burrito experience. I am almost more enthusiastic about the potential for future innovation than I am about this current version. Imagine a Split Dip Cup featuring Creamy Chipotle Sauce and crushed Doritos, or perhaps Nacho Cheese paired with a Tajín crunch blend. Now that this cup is available in stores, the possibilities are endless.
Cons: While I love Taco Bell’s new slow-roasted Cantina <a href="https://shoppixy.com/we-went-to-florence-for-an-early-taste-of-chilis-chicken-parm-big-crispy/” title=”We Went To Florence For An Early Taste Of Chili's Chicken Parm Big Crispy”>Chicken compared to the previous recipe, I don’t believe this format is the best match for it. If you decide to try the Double Dipping Burritos, stick with the steak.
