OREO Thins represent the more sophisticated side of the OREO brand. These slender versions of the iconic sandwich cookie focus on elevated, indulgent profiles like Tiramisu, Chocolate Ganache, and Irish Creme. While espresso seems like a natural fit for this lineup, you won’t find the new Espresso Creme OREO Thins sitting on store shelves with the rest of them. OREO has manufactured only 1,000 packs of these new Thins for an online giveaway, and they kindly provided us with an early sample to test.
Why is OREO restricting a flavor to such an exclusive giveaway?
I’m not entirely certain, though it isn’t a brand-new concept. Last year, OREO released 1,000 packs of Cherry Blossom Matcha OREO Thins using an identical giveaway method: register, receive an email on the day of the release, be among the first 1,000 people to finalize your order, and receive a pack of rare cookies for a small shipping fee. (The initial fee was $13; this time, the cost is just $3.)
I had mixed feelings about the previous holder of the Rarest American OREO title. Can this new champion perform better? Will I be even more puzzled that we are locking specific OREO flavors behind what is essentially a lottery? There is only one way to find out; let’s ruin the resale value of a box of cookies.

New OREO Thins!
Pros: While the chocolate overpowered the Cherry Blossom Matcha OREO Thins, these Espresso Creme OREO Thins succeed due to the balance between the traditional wafers and a compelling coffee flavor. The flavor is potent enough that I would hesitate to try it in the classic or Double Stuf variety; I didn’t feel Thins were the right shape for the previous exclusive flavor, but this is the ideal form factor for Espresso Creme. Try to get your hands on these; you won’t be disappointed… unless you don’t win, of course.
Cons: It is truly baffling that these won’t be sold in stores; OREO has a winner on their hands. I understood their previous giveaway-only flavor being “exotic” enough to justify limiting it to those who were truly interested, but coffee is not an unpopular flavor in America.
